so i thought it was finally time to explain the extra face in the photo shoot. he's the new addition to our family. i can't go into all the details publicly here, but we have full legal custody of him, and expect that it will turn into a permanent situation. we can't predict the future, of course. he is the same age as our luigi. he seems happy here and we hope he will continue to be. so we now have 3 teens in the house!
p.s. please ignore the reflection in the glasses. it was a very quick photo shoot!

books anyone?
through too many details to mention, i purchased an usborne consultant kit full of great books for only the cost of shipping. i was especially excited to be able to get free books and be able to order books at a discount in the future. the catch is that i have to order a certain amount of books by a certain date, or i have to pay for all the books i received free in the kit.
so here's the deal...
*usborne books are awesome. i love them and i homeschool with them. they make great additions to your personal library and they make fantasti...c gifts. i have set up an eShow where you can order anything that you're interested in and it can be shipped directly to you. you pay online with a credit card, so it's very easy - no mailing checks to me or anything.
*once your order reaches a certain amount, you're eligible for free books and certain discounted book. as you add books to your online order, it will track how much you're eligible for in each category
*the person with the largest order amount when the show closes will get their shipping costs refunded (by me through a paypal transaction)
*you receive 5% off your order for each person you refer to the eShow that is not currently on the guest list - up to 25% off your order total (also refunded by me through paypal after show closes)
please use this link: www.myubam.com/HOS194087 and this link ONLY to submit your orders! without going through this link, the order incentives will not be valid.
please email me if you have any questions. thanks.

a new playground
for those of you who aren't on facebook or twitter, we just spent a week in san diego. most of it was for a huge orthopaedic meeting and a few days we were able to spend together (the doc & i... kids stayed in montgomery). one full day was spent participating in a service project that the AAOS sponsored. here are a couple links to what it was about. see if you can see us waving in the video...

WORD OF THE MONTH {pathfinder}
"A leader is a pathfinder," KEVIN HALL was told by arthur watkins.
kevin's chapter on the word 'pathfinder' is about following your true path, enjoying the journey, and the people we meet on our path that guide us along our journey. he states that it's his belief that regular reflection time assists in finding joy in the journey.
starting this month, i will follow in kevin's footsteps by taking one percent of each day (approximately 15 minutes) to reflect on the previous 24 hours and contemplate possibilities that lie ahead. it will create a 'witness of my journey' and hopefully keep me on my PATH and headed in the direction of my PURPOSE.

CRUISE top ten
so i know everyone wants the eye candy, since it takes the least amount of effort on a reader's part. but until i have all the pics (and you know there are TONS of them) organized and edited, i'm not uploading any of them. but here is something to make you chuckle in the meantime:
TOP 10 QUESTIONS ASKED TO GUEST SERVICES ON A CRUISE SHIP:
10. Do the stairs go up or down?
9. Does the crew stay on-board?
8. Does the elevator take me to the front of the ship?
7. If I flush the toilet while sitting on it, what will happen to me?
6. Does the ship create its own electricity?
5. If the pictures don't have any numbers on them, how will I know which one is mine?
4. I have the popcorn in the microwave but I can't figure out how to get it to turn on.
3. Does the toilet use fresh water or salt water?
2. What do you do with the ice sculptures after they melt?
1. What time is the midnight buffet?

excellent stolen words
so, at the risk of publicly declaring to one of my friends that i'm a facebook stalker, i have stolen something from him because it was just too fabulously hilarious NOT to share! but, as you read through these, please remind yourself they're not my words. they're someone else's. i don't want to take credit, although i can relate to thinking every single one!
1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.
2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.
4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.
5. How the heck are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?
6. Was learning cursive really necessary?
7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.
8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.
9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.
10. Bad decisions make good stories.
11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.
12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again
13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.
14. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.
15. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.
16. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.
17. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
18. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.
19. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?
20. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!
21. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.
22. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.
23. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time.
24. The first testicular guard, the "Cup," was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974. That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important.
thanks bunches JC for the laughs. sorry for the thievery but funnies just need to be passed on.
